Advantage of living the island life - fresh seafood in the fresh air is right down the street.

Isabelle is the daughter of one of Matty's co-workers, Ken. Since joining Lily, Ken and Matty have become friends. We have also been fortunate enough to meet his family and the wonderful Isabelle. Isabelle has type 1 diabetes and we were honored to join her and her family in the JDRF Walk for the Cure.

These are her own statements from this past year. No child should have to feel this way...
"Mommy, when do you think there will be a cure for diabetes? When I am your age?"
"I wish I was free. I wish I didn't have diabetes. I wish I didn't have to think about it all of the time."
"Will I be able to have children when I'm older?"
"Can we trade Mom? I'll take your bad eyesight and you can have my diabetes."
"I don't want to wear an insulin pump for the rest of my life."
"I hate diabetes. I wish I didn't have it."
"I want to take all of the money that I have in my piggy bank and give it to the people who are working on a cure. I don't want toys or money or anything else because finding a cure is more important to me. That's all I want."
"I wish I didn't have so many needles in me all of the time. I don't want fingerpokes, shots or site changes anymore."
"I know I can't go to a friend's house without you Mom because no one will know how to take care of me."
"Maybe I was meant to have diabetes. Maybe God made me this way so I could raise lots of money to find a cure and I could help other kids with diabetes."
"I don't even remember my life as a little kid without diabetes. I wish I knew what it was like not to have it."
"Why me? It's not fair."
"I don't want to wear that...kids will see my pump and ask me too many questions."
"Mom, look at all of the scars I have on my belly from pokes. Do you think they'll ever go away? It doesn't look very nice."
"I hope, I hope I don't have diabetes anymore!"

On September 4th Bella went pee on the potty for the first time. We were so proud! Since then we have gotten cushy little bum seats for all our toliets and we've updated the reading material to include board books.
